Egg Tempera | Saponified Wax | Encaustic
I have been experimenting many binders and Emulsions. I am listing here the most satisfying to my opinion.
1 tsp (tea spoon) = 5 ml
1 TBSP (Table spoon) = 3 tsp = 15 ml

La Peinture à l'uf (Tempera/Détrempe) est une technique de peinture traditionèle irremplaçable. Bien que très simple, c'est la plus puissante et le plus fiable. Elle est constituée de pigments pures en poudre et d'un médium à base d'ufs de poule. Cette technique fut d'usage courant jusqu'à la fin du XVème siècle, date à laquelle, elle fut supplantée par la peinture à l'huile. La Tempera fut redécouverte au début du XIXème siècle. Son usage est actuellement en expansion, surtout dans les pays Anglosaxons.
Le jaune d'oeuf est un médium simple et doux respectant la fraicheur des couleurs. Avec le temps, la peinture se durçi et s'améliore. Après l'évaporation de l'eau, très peu de liant subsiste dans la peinture terminée. Cette particularité produit un effet optique d'intensité et de profondeur. Au niveau de l'exécution, la peinture sèche rapidement et se dilue à l'eau. Grace au pouvoir emulsifiant de l'oeuf, on peut modifier ou personnaliser son medium par l'adjonction d'huiles et de vernis qui pourront renforcer la peintures. La Tempera peut être travaillée suivant n'importe quel style ou approche personnèle. D'une qualité comparable à la Fresque, elle peut aussi être utilisée sur des murs de plâtre sec.

Until now, I used dry pigments. If you want to use this same emulsion with water pasted pigments you should not put water in the Emulsion. I usually start painting with emulsion A and when close to the end, I switch for Emulsion B.

3 Producing granules | Slowly and in small amount, poor the warm mixture into moving cold water. Collect the solidified granules for later use. | |||
4 Painting process | To paint, put down a couple of granules on a moderately heated anodized aluminum palette. Add pigments and mix. Caution to toxic fumes, work in a ventilated room and have an exhaust fan over the palette. |
